Persecution
THE BIBLICAL RESPONSES TO PERSECUTION.
- Matthew 10:21-24: The servant is not better than his Lord.
- 1 Peter 4:16: Refuse to be ashamed.
- 1 Peter 4:12-13: Peter explicitly counsels you NOT to be surprised when facing persecution.
- 2 Corinthians 1:4: God has helped you in tribulation, so you can help others.
- Romans 8:31-39: Trust in God's abiding presence. Nothing can separate us from God and His love.
- 1 Corinthians 10:13: God will never allow persecution to become unbearable on a personal level.
- Matthew 5:13-16: Boldly remaining as the salt and light of the world. This teaching of Jesus comes immediately after His beatitude on the blessings of those who experience persecution.
- 1 Peter 4:13: Rejoice in your suffering and in all things.
- Philippians 4:4: Rejoice in the Lord always.
- Revelation 2:10: Fear nothing.
USE YOUR CIVIL RIGHTS.
- Acts 22 & 25: The apostle Paul was willing to use his rights as a Roman citizen to defend himself, and also to appeal to Caesar for a hearing.
LOVE YOUR ENEMIES.
- Matthew 5:44: Love and bless your enemies.
- Proverbs 25:21: Feed your enemies.
- Luke 6:27-28: Love your enemies.
- Romans 12:14: Bless them which persecute you.
RUN AND HIDE OR STAND FAST AT YOUR POST?
- Matthew 2:13-14: We flee when it is clearly God's will.
- 1 Kings 17:3: God might command you to hide like Elijah.
- 1 Kings 17:13: You can hide other believers as did Obadiah.
- 1 Kings 19:1-8: God may not want you to flee your post of duty.
- Joshua 2:6: You can hide other believers as did Rahab.
- Matthew 10:23: Jesus commanded His followers to flee from one town to the next.
ALWAYS PRAY AND THEN PRAY SOME MORE.
- Acts 12:5: While in prison pray without ceasing.
- Hebrews 13:3: Pray for those who are in prison.
- Philippians 4:6: Pray with thankfulness.
- Colossians 4:18: Remember those in prison.
WHO DOES VENGEANCE BELONG TO?
- Psalms 43:1: God will do the judging and delivering.
- Proverbs 25:22: God will do the judging and delivering.
- Romans 12:17-21: God will do the judging and delivering.
