Baptism/Lord's Supper
IMPORTANCE OF BAPTISM.
- Matthew 3:13–15: Jesus was baptized as an example to us.
- Mark 16:15, 16: Belief that leads to baptism saves us.
BAPTISM—A SPIRITUAL SYMBOL.
- Romans 6:3, 4: Death, burial, resurrection.
- Colossians 2:12: Buried and resurrected by faith.
- Galatians 3:27: A symbol of a new relationship with Christ.
- Acts 2:38: We receive the Holy Spirit at baptism.
- 1 Corinthians 12:12, 13: We become part of Christ’s Body at baptism.
- Acts 19:1–7: On being baptized again after receiving new truth.
BAPTISM IS BY IMMERSION.
- Matthew 3:16: Jesus came up out of the water.
- Acts 8:36–39: Philip and the eunuch both went down into the water.
THE LORD’S SUPPER—A SPIRITUAL SYMBOL.
- Matthew 26:26–28: The record of the original Lord’s Supper.
- John 13:12–15: Before the Lord’s Supper came the foot-washing.
- 1 Corinthians 10:16, 17: The communion service of bread and wine.
- 1 Corinthians 11:23–30: Jesus established the symbol of the Lord’s Supper.
